Hi grapelovers,
Since the GPEMS tasting, I've been able to bring in some great wines.
The most noteable, the WOW wine, is the Montes Alpha merlot. Just ask Guy.
It comes in fine wooden cases of 12, at $20.89 per bottle. I've had trouble
keeping this one in stock. It's a real keeper.
The Delicato Shiraz at $10.70 is amazing for an American wine. The best
value out of the USA for a long time.
Two fine dessert wines in are:
Jingala Botrytis Riesling Verdelho at $29.64
Rutherglen Muscat at $22.31
The Peter Lehmann wines have finally arrived. They are:
Semillon $12.70 (can be cellared for 5-9 years)
Weighbridge Shiraz $12.70
Clancey's Red $14.59
Peter Lehmann Shiraz 416.74 (The agent told me that they just received
some tasting results, and that it came it at 94!
For the Penfolds lovers, (Henry, control yourself), the '99 Bin 389 is in.
It goes for $30.60. Please let me know how much you would like. I have
only 24 bottles, and will have to ration it, as usual.
If you haven't already tried the Penfolds Rawsons Retreat Merlot, then give
it a try. At $11.09, it's a real good buy.
Finally, the best news. I was very fortunate to be obtain six bottles of
Rosemount Estate's flagship wines--1998 Mountain Blue Shiraz Cab Sauv. This
is one of the most awarded wines to hit the Australian and International
wine scene in recent years. It's a collector, and goes for $53.90. I
figure that if I amortize it over a year ($4.50 a month), then I can afford
one.
Its sibling, 1998 Rosemount Estate Balmoral Syrah (yes, not shiraz!) is the
better known of the two flagship wines and will show its best at six to
eight years of age, building to full potential in 10 to 15 years.
I've only four bottles of each of the Rosemount wines, left, so if you're
interested, please let me know. Decanter members always get first crack.
Just in--Fat Bastard Shiraz and Chardonnay, from France! Available on
special order with a specially inscribed T-shirt! This is not a joke.
Single Blend lovers. Glenn Breton, Canada's first single malt is now
available at $77.75.
Please check the new GRAPE NEWS, or FROM THE MOUTH'S OF GRAPES rack for
tasting notes of interesting wines. The idea just came to me the other day.
I've not seen this anywhere else. I've been hounding wine agents to send me
some tasting notes of wines that they're proud to supply. Check the rack
for new notes.
This is my first attempt at some form of a newsletter, and I feel somewhat
uncomfortable foisting it on Decanter members. If you don't want to,
receive any more of this blatant drivel, let me know, and I will remove you
from my mailing list. On the other hand, if you find this useful, or know
someone else who would want to receive this, please let me know.
In any event, have a grape weekend.
Cheers,
Al (from The Beer Box)
